It seems like just yesterday when Allen Iverson was one of the most beloved players in the league, with his jerseys flying off shelves and kids imitating his crossover move world-wide.

A week ago, he wrote a letter to the league offices explaining his intention of retiring.

What happened? How did the super-star and face of the Philadelphia 76ers’ franchise fall so fast from his glory days? Even the lightening fast 6-footer out of Georgetown would be amazed at the speed at which his fame has disappeared.

So what now? Iverson has repeatedly said that he has not lost a step in his game, yet the only team expressing interest is the 76ers, who are just as desperate as Iverson on making something happen. This is exactly why it is doomed to fail.

The 76ers need a veteran point guard to pull the team together, not a 34 year-old who still feels like he needs to prove himself to the world. The 76ers need a cerebral player who understands how to bring out the best in everyone’s game, not a self-centered man who operates with his own agenda.

If Ed Stefanski makes the mistake of bringing Allen Iverson back, it will only be out of desperation to sell tickets and bring back memories of the championship run in 2001. Like a couple who has a nasty breakup and tries to get back together, it won’t take more than 20 games for both sides to realize the mistake.

What do YOU think the future holds for Iverson, who claims to still have plenty left in the tank?

Great Post, I think they will make the mistake and bring him back. It will help them in the short term but a team like the Sixers should be considering the future and giving more playing time to Jrue Holiday.
